Fixing common Ice And Fire Mod crashes and errors

Diagnose Ice And Fire Mod startup crashes, missing Citadel errors, version mismatches and memory problems using your crash report and a simple checklist.

Fixing common Ice And Fire Mod crashes and errors — illustration

Most Ice And Fire Mod problems come from a handful of predictable causes: a missing library, mismatched versions or the wrong file type. This guide shows where to look for evidence and how to fix each common case without guessing.

Start with the evidence

Before changing anything, find out what the game reported. Two places matter:

  • logs/latest.log inside your game directory records the most recent launch.
  • crash-reports contains a timestamped file for each crash.

Search these files for the words Missing, requires, Exception and the name of any mod mentioned near the error. The mod named in the error is often, though not always, the cause.

Common problems and their fixes

SymptomLikely causeFix
Forge lists a missing mod or dependencyCitadel is absent or the wrong versionInstall the Citadel build for your exact Minecraft version
Crash immediately on launchMod built for a different Minecraft or Forge versionMatch Minecraft, Forge, Citadel and Ice And Fire to one version
Mod does not appear in the Mods listA source ZIP or unzipped folder was placed in modsUse a compiled .jar; see the step-by-step install guide
Game freezes or closes while exploringNot enough memory allocatedRaise the memory allocation modestly in your launcher
Crash only with a larger modpackConflict with another modTest with only Citadel and Ice And Fire, then add mods back in groups
Error mentions Java or class versionWrong Java runtimeUse the runtime your Minecraft version expects, such as Java 17 for 1.18.2

Isolate the problem

  1. Copy your mods folder somewhere safe.
  2. Leave only Citadel and Ice And Fire in mods and launch.
  3. If that works, add the other mods back in small groups until the crash returns.
  4. The last group added contains the conflict; narrow it down one mod at a time.

When a world will not load

If the game starts but one world crashes, the problem may be tied to saved data, for example after changing mod versions. Restore the backup you made before updating, or test the same world with the previous mod version. For moves between the original line and the Community Edition, see the Community Edition explainer.

Reporting a bug properly

If you believe you have found a real bug, report it to the mod's own issue tracker rather than to third-party sites. Include your Minecraft, Forge, Citadel and Ice And Fire versions, a full list of mods, and the crash report file. Search existing reports first; many crashes have already been diagnosed.
